Favourite Photo’s Collection – Body Bike

Body Bike

The photo of the week is the BODY BIKE (with ‘splash design’), taken at the Australian Fitness & Health Expo in Sydney 2013.

In the world of indoor cycling, there are few bikes as charismatic and audacious as the BODY BIKE. Many years ago, I um’d and ah’d about these bikes. It was a difficult and sad decision to leave them on the shelf. A regret I still feel today. For me, it came down to budget. At the time, I simply couldn’t afford to turn over the entire cycle studio, so I would’ve had to do it phases… long – painful – phases. So I stuck with the brand I had, for continuity purposes. Insert frowny face here.

Before power metres, blue tooth and large screen class ‘output’ display’s, we cycle instructors had to create the magic. I liked that with the BODY BIKE, I could pick a few in each color… mix it up if you will. I had a grand plan to use the color to spice up the cycle class. For example, I’d nominate one group of same colored bikes to do a standing hill climb, while another group of same colored bikes would do a sprint.

I figured calling out “BLUE GROUP….” was better than yell “YOU LOT OVER THERE… YES YOU… WITH THE GLASSES, YOU ARE DOING STANDING CLIMB”… and “YELLOW GROUP…” was better than “ALL THE PEOPLE WITH BLUE TOPS ON, YOU ARE DOING SPRINTS… UM… YOUR TIP IS KIND OF GREY, NOT BLUE… I AGREE”

Now time has moved on and the BODY BIKE has continued to fine tune it’s offerings, adding both atheistic’s and function the their cycles, including watts on their Performance Console.

Exposed fly wheels have lived harmoniously with the fitness industry for a long time and will continue to do so, I have little doubt. That said, ticking off an OHS box with the BODY BIKE’s all encompassing shroud is also a plus for me. The shroud also reduces the bike frame’s exposure to sweat and I could imagine that they would be quite easy to maintain.

Body Bike International are a Scandinavian company, who design and manufacture these wonderful bikes… and only these bikes.

In their own words:

“Cycles are what we do. Nothing else… There are no lapses in our concentration. We are focused. We are specialized and we stay completely dedicated. We don’t want to do it all. We just want to do cycles. That is our secret. And that is why we excel in developing, designing and producing the world’s best indoor cycles”

The BODY BIKE range includes: Basic, Classic, Classic Stainless Steel, Classic Supreme and Magic. The BODY BIKE’S shroud can be customized with branding and imagery unlike any other’s I know. Body Bike has also become the preferred indoor bike for Les Mills RPM and they look pretty impressive too!
